14 May - £240million Northern Bank notes replaced to trace millions stolen

When £26m was stolen from the Northern Bank, the serial numbers of 150,000 £10 notes thought to be stolen were released in the hope that the robbers could be traced. That didn’t work. So on this date, £240m worth of notes were re-issued in a different style and colour to make the old currency invalid. But still no one has been charged with the actual robbery.
