18 March - Whole of UK observes a minutes silence after Dunblane Massacre

Nothing can make up for the 17 wasted lives that Thomas Hamilton took in just three minutes at Dunblane School. The fact that a change in the law a year later made it illegal to buy or possess a handgun and the fact that, a year after that, 160,000 handguns were handed in, means that at least their deaths were not in vain. Thomas Hamilton’s body was examined but no physical cause (i.e. brain tumour) for his actions could be found and he was cremated in secret two days after the silence...
