04 July - First signature hammer and knife attack by Yorkshire Ripper

Newly married Peter Sutcliffe was told that his wife’s miscarriages meant they would never have children. He attacked for the first time soon after this news. At 1.30 am, Anna Rogulskyj was trying to return to her boyfriend’s home when Sutcliffe hit her from behind with a hammer. As she lay bleeding on the floor, he then took out a knife and slashed her repeatedly across the stomach. A neighbour disturbed his attack, which saved Rogulskyj’s life.
