13 January - UK Serial killer Dr Harold Shipman found hung in his cell

News that Harold Shipman had taken his own life in prison was met with mixed emotions. The death-obsessed doctor, who may have killed as many as 300 of his own patients at the Donneybrook Medical Centre in Hyde, used torn up bed sheets in his cell to hang himself on this day in 2004.
