04 January - David Norris and Gary Dobson are jailed for the murder of Stephen Lawrence

Now in their 30s, Norris and Dobson are jailed for the racist murder of schoolboy Stephen Lawrence who was attacked while waiting for his bus nineteen years before. The intermittent and botched murder investigation will prompt the MacPherson Inquiry into the workings of the Metropolitan Police, highlighting the ‘institutional racism’ prevalent in the organisation. Following the charge of these two men, Scotland Yard Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe warned that though the several other of the gang members have never been charged, they ‘should not rest easy in their beds.’ Read the Stephen Lawrence crime file
